Portable Propane Heater

Portable propane heaters are less expensive to run than portable electric heaters. They are also safe to use and easy to operate. There are five different types of portable propane heaters to choose from.

Choosing the portable propane heater that is best for you will depend on the area you are looking to heat.

Propane Radiant Heaters: A radiant heater is one type of portable propane heater, which is often used on enclosed construction sites. They are ideal for heating people or objects. A propane radiant heater only heats objects; it does not heat the air around the object. They can be used to help dry an area, or to provide heat for people working in an enclosed area. Portable propane radiant heaters can weigh as little as eight pounds and don’t go much over 20 pounds. The smaller models you can find for less than $100.

Propane Infrared Heaters: Another type of portable propane heater, which may interest you is a propane infrared heater. They are similar to propane radiant heaters in that they do not heat the air. They only heat the objects within a specific area. Propane infrared heaters work well for small areas such as garages, and they provide instant heat. They do not need electricity to run, and lastly, they can run from 8,000 BTU up to 14,000 BTU. Propane Infrared Heaters can be purchased for under $50.

Propane Patio Heaters: Not all propane patio heaters can be considered a portable propane heater because they are simply too large and too heavy to be portable. A propane patio heater looks like a street light. They have a wide base, with a long pole and a dome-like top, which reflects heat out into a circle. However, you can also buy a propane tabletop patio heater. This smaller version of the patio heater can run for approximately two hours, and can radiant heat out up to 10 feet away.  The 21-PhTTS stainless steel table top patio heater weighs 14 pounds and costs $99.

Propane powered forced air heaters: Unlike other portable propane heaters, the propane powered forced air heater does require electricity to run. The propane fuels a very hot flame within the heater. The flame is strategically placed in front of a powerful fan, which forces the air in the room to circulate through the heater. The flame warms the air as it passes through. This type of portable propane heater does heat the air, and it runs on a regular 20-pound propane tank. This heater weighs as little as 10 pounds, and it can run for hours.

Propane space heaters: The classic portable propane heater is the space heater. Propane space heaters can be found in a wide range of sizes depending on the area you need to heat. They do heat the air in the room, and they may or may not require electricity to run. A typical propane space heater, which can be used indoors can heat an area up to 300 square feet. They weigh less than 20 pounds and cost between $100 and $150.
